Movie Review: Inglorious Basterds

The DVD was with me. But i couldn't make up my mind whether to watch it. The cover looked interesting plus it had won an Oscar. I wasn't keen on watching a depressing thing as it was about the Nazi- Jew thing.. After all it was by Tarantino. But I was drawn to it & when I heard the music i could not resist watching the rest. The movie begins in a grim manner with a murder scene. In fact all the scenes have a liberal sprinkling of that whenever possible. Do you think Quentin was a vampire in his previous life or something?

I prepared myself for a dismal yet interesting story. But I was in for a surprise. The movie has a twist. The narration is different and the general feel is that of black humor. The Jews get back at the Nazis for a change. Brad Pit looks & feels different. But the movie belongs to Christopher Waltz, the main Nazi and Melanie Laurent a Jew. They are too good. Diana Kruger also makes an appearance. At the end of the movie I din feel all that bad. If you can take all the shooting with a pinch of salt, it's fine really....

Movie Review: Twilight

It's easy to fall in love wth a vampire if he is like Edward Cullen, the hero of the Twilight series. I had planned to see the movie since I knew it was a rage all over the world. But it happened when I least expected it. I just happened to be channel surfing at 11 pm when the movie began. The beginning was nothing spectacular. I was just wondering what was so special about it when things started to look up. Robert Pattinson is simply awesome. He plays the role to perfection. I like him in all that white make-up, lipstick and stiff gelled hair. Kristen also suits the part of the shy girl. I loved the movie so much that I watched "The Moon" the very next day on DVD. Waiting to see the Eclipse.
Research tells me that gals like this more than boys generally. Even though it deals with vampires, there is no blood and gore. So not exactly a horror movie either. More like an unusual love story.

Movie Review: The Proposal

Sandra Bullock & Ryan Reynolds star in this romantic comedy. She is his boss and he , her assistant. She is Canadian and he American. Betty White acts as the smart and cute granny. I loved it...the perfect movie to watch at night....

The Jokes are more subtle and not the kind which have you in splits...but makes you smile all the same.

Watch it, I say.

Movie Review: What Happens in Vegas

Cameron Diaz and Ashton get married and before you know they are heading for splitsville. the scene where they meet each other is sooo hilarious. I laughed so much. Cameron does comedy really well. In between all this they get a lottery for 3 million us$/...Well I don't want to tell you the whole plot. Suffice to know that it's really worth a " dekho" ( a favourite word of the Hindu paper)!!!!

It's light and worth the time. Value for money if yr looking for laughs.

Movie Review: We Are Family

This is another one from Karan Jos' stable. It's a remake of the Hollywood flick" step mom". K Jo gives due credit in the beginning. Bollywood is aware that viewers can generally make out if it's a remake of a Holly wood pic. Anyway, so the plot's generally the same. Arjun Rampal is the father of 3 kids and Kajol his first wife. Kareena is his GF. That's how the movie begins. Finally he gets hitched to his GF. and even his daughter gets married. Now the ending was funny. Coz you can see that time has flown and the kids have grown up, even Arjun has a beard. But Kareena, glamorous as ever:) I ain't complaining ok...I like a movie which makes me laugh. Now some people may feel sad-especailly if u relate to the movie and understand each and every word of Hindi. But otherwise it's ok. Nothing bad and nothing especailly good either. Time pass!!

Movie Review: Salt

Salt starring Angelina Jolie is a fast paced action movie which has espionage as the main theme. Jolie changes her looks throughout the movie. She effortlessly jumps from one truck top to the other, scales multi storey buildings and jumps off a helicopter a la Bond. Infact the beginning and ending of the movie reminded me of one of Pierce Brosnan's Bond movies...think it's "the World is not enough". But when you watch the movie you really don't get much time to think about all this. The editing is excellent and the story moves fast. When I saw all the jumping she was doing. Couldn't help think it was a body double. But impressive all the same. The CIA is very fit. They must have recruited sprinters. Now the story is complicated enough that you don't get a chance to think much about the why's while watching it. Later on you may ponder as to why that happened or this happened and you may not get an answer. For that you may need to watch Salt -2 which I believe is already in the making. The way they have ended the movie gives scope for that. You see her running into the woods- think it's Russia...All in all entertainment.

Rin- Sakura Sakura

I am listening to some Japanese music. I am not an authority on this subject, but it seems to be an amalgamation of traditional and modern. Anyone know more about this please enlighten with a comment.

Whatever it is, it is very soothing and relaxing. Enjoy!!!

Book Review: It's Not About the Bike

Although I had heard about Lance Armstrong, truth is I din know much about him until my friend Pinky thrust his autobiography into my hands. I found the book very inspirational. The best part is, it's not fiction. It's the true story of one man's fight against all odds. U gotta read it to know all the nitty gritty. Anyhow he is a world famous cyclist who won the Tour De France a record 7 times. Towards the second half of the book he describes his first major win. At one point I felt some muscle movement and looked down. My feet were pedalling and I was climbing the Pyrenees!!!
His mom has been a pillar of support and goes to prove that behind every successful man there is a woman....:) She sorta raised him alone. well I ain't giving out too many details. You go read it...
